Roy Trickey (her husband) was inducted into the army to fight in the Vietnam war, the same war that he and Minnijean had been peacefully protesting for several years. After an extended effort to have Roy listed as a conscientious objector (which did not succeed) they decided to move to Canada.

She worked for a time in Toronto until she and her husband decided to move up to Northern Ontario to raise cattle and farm.
